ROV Pilot Tech Trainee

Texx4Real, I can say only one thing - don't sit at home patiently waiting for reply of some company. It is very random process, especially for ROV trainee as I discovered. Try to make you own business ot whatever. Wink
So ROV trainee for nowdays must be like some kind of opportunity, not priority and you don't have to think that you will get a job for tomorrow/next week/next month. Try to find out electrical and mechanical job openings separately.

I stand corrected Very Happy It's sometimes difficult to remember or compare rates as some are 120 day contracts, others 170 days, etc.

Just became and ROV pilot tech?

You mean u want to be, if you already were one then you wouldn't be looking for a trainee position.

I might try that tomorrow Laughing

Today Matthew I'm going to be........

Just ragging on ya, but a tip is print that cv and mail it with a covering letter to every office for oil and gas industry companies you can find. Wait a few weeks and do it again.

As it says on a shampoo bottle "rinse and repeat".

Your a pilot tech when you're in the job and have a number of hours on the logs, you don't do a course and shazam your bestowed with instant rov superhero skills.

Long the path and there are thousands just like you all aiming for the same thing.

All the best mate.

You need to read everything you can on this forum before asking silly questions. You obviously haven't done your research so standby for silly answers

For preventing you to read all this f.a.q., I'll say thay you have no chance to jump in industry. Or it's equal to 0.0001%, so if you have no connections in any offshore company or man who will recommend you - there is no future. Courses don't give anything useful, except the row in CV, without real experience there is no need to bring you in team. Smile

.....or would employers prefer to train techs into pilots?

Thats more the case.

A non technical person, or a tech for that matter, will not be that much wiser about ROV's after completing a course. Employers know this, so will often rather select and train their own ROV techs in house on their own equipment.

So in theory i have everything that they would be looking for? Also, as i would just be training, if the guys on my back shift were to be doing something difficult etc would it be ok for me to hang around to see what is done. Just to help enhance my own experience basically.

Do the Oil and Gas UK and OLF Norwegian Medicals at the same time and you will be eligible to work in most areas of the world.

I also do the FOET + OLF modules every 4 years for my offshore survival.

Being a corrupt world we live in, you will still need to do local medicals if you go on any jobs in Malaysia or China etc...The price Oil Companies pay for being able to bring expat workers into China and Malaysia. Some of these medicals are are a joke and simply money making tick the box exercises, and nothing to worry about.

"I did consider my skillset which was way above the norm for people going into this"
With that humble attitude i'm sure you will go far!
As for 'only' flying class II ROVs - some of us have made very lucrative careers out of this obviously lowly aspect of the job.

Im sure that with your extensive ROV operational experience you will sail into a job - i genuinely hope you do - but please just add a little bit of humility before we all meet you offshore.

Good luck
