Well this just arrived today it seems that the SERS Group is starting up a Rov Training division .

Details are :- The 4 week course combines Electrical installation in Hazardous conditions & Special Locations, Engineering Systems (Pneumatics, hydraulics and applied Mechanics) with training in circuit design, test and measurement, fault diagnostics and repair. ROV piloting skills as well as support skills as an ROV Pilot including ROV classifications, structures, sensors and tooling. Offshore safety and hazards with seamanship Navigation, acoustics and rigging. For a more detailed course outline, please email training@sersgoup.com. The total cost of ROV Pilot Technician course is $4500 (US). Please note that accommodation is not included in the course cost. For preferred rates that meet all budgets, please indicate your interest on the return application form and we will email you a list.

So its the same old deal you do the course then join the other few thousand trainees searching for employment .
It would be so nice if they said that after the course they could put you straight out on a job for 3 months with a main line Rov contractor .

Well just under 3 weeks to go before this site closes so best make the most of it .

Cheers

Hi James its funny we keep telling these guys please don't waste your money on doing a course due to the amount of trainees all ready looking .

Yes it is very busy but were on earth are you going to put a few thousand trainees .I think the schools should make every body aware that the market is just flooded with trainees , But do they " No " lets face these courses are any thing from £2500 to well over £10.000 .

Its down in the end to the individuals doing his or her home work which is why they all seem to come to this web site and start asking questions which is fine but most answers can be found on ROV Rookie Corner FAQ or just take time to read what hundreds if not thousands of people have asked before .

However its very clear that many have all ready made up the minds and still do a course only to join the other few thousands still looking for employment then they come on here or linkedin , There is a ongoing debate on Linkedin under the header of " ROV Market Boom "

Yup. 115 questions about everything including hydraulic systems and components, electronics and communication. I know this is very vague but it's a very broad test.

A Sikorsky-76 helicopter carrying eight persons this morning ditched off the coast of Sarawak, Malaysia, after a sudden weather change, Malaysian news agency Bernama has reported.

According to the Malaysian oil company Petronas the aircraft ditched about 159 km off the shore of Bintulu at about 7.45 am, today. All the passengers, six oil workers and two pilots, were rescued by a vessel passing by, Bernama reported.
“The incident occurred when the helicopter was about to make a controlled landing aboard a vessel carrying out seismic work. PETRONAS is extending all the necessary assistance to the affected personnel. The cause of the incident is still under investigation,” Petronas said in a statement.
The oil workers are employed by a Petronas contractor. Local police said the passengers were from France, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Canada.

I had that test in Norway, not a big problem. Some math questions, some question about your personality and your skills.

I actually got that trainee job so hurray.

But I don't know how the union thinks about it :-/

Apparently they accidentally invented some glasses that correct colourblindness. Can't remember what the original application was.

Ref: article in Energy Voice.

I have read the article and discussed it with XXXX and we are in agreement that this will not have any bearing on the tax relief received in respect of a valid seafarers’ earning deduction claim.

The new rules appear to be aimed at offshore employers who do not deduct PAYE and especially National Insurance for their employees who work in the UK (including the UKCS) and thereby avoid having to pay the employers’ liability for National Insurance.

You will speak to people who did the course and got work, you will also find people who didn't.

Thete are no formal qualifications to be an rov pilot. There are to be a diver some training schools like to say they train one and hence their rov one is also the required one.

The problem with an rov tra8ning course is it is nothing but an introduction. It is also only useful for rov jobs.

There is a big skills shortage but there are also tens of thpudands trying to get in.

There are many other - better paid - jobs offshore. Getting a recognised qualification in somethibg electrical mechanical or hydraulics would not only be useful for rov jobs but also for many other jobs.

Dont put all your eggs in one basket.

The last comment was from over the pond so here's my tuppence worth from this end.
From a trainee point of view they are good but once you know what you are doing i would advise to stay well away. The guys that are still there are either misfits, brainwashed or can't see past their bi-annual loyalty bonus they would loose moving.
The systems are way behind in technology and crap to work on. The majority of work is drill zzzzzzupport which will bore you to death in no time. If you get on a boat then you may think differently but they are few and far between.
Also, their work predominately is in West Africa.
No pension ( AME, Africa & middle East contract ) and a laughable private medical health care.
Of course, don't take my word for it, it's purely my personnel take on them. There are however far better companies out there to work for that will treat you like a human being and not a number.
