favorite agencies

i have been using the same 2 agencies for several years now and want to see what the other agencies bring to the table in your opinion. Im sure some agency folks will read this and maybe see what is working or not working for the contractors who are in business with them.
Ill start it off..

I use UKPS(FET) and Maris.
--UKPS has quite a bit of work, my rates are good and they tend to call often. i just dont like the pay schedule. 10 business days turns into 12-15 business days and i have to send email reminders sometimes.

--Maris pays quickly (great!!!) and Lee-Ann is good at calling and taking care of anything that i need. they have a lot of work, im just not interested in some of the work and im no fan of one of the company rates.

i would like to hear about some other experiences and likes and dislikes.

Appreciate you getting in touch Paul
Can I please ask what your background is tho ? Well done on securing a job with SS7 are you enjoying it, few of my friends work for them (diving) and they live the dream as they say. I'd give my left leg for start with them haha
I've sent CV's away to some of the big boys in the industry just to test the water but I'm struggling constructing my CV around the ROV part as I have no insight or quals relating to it apart from my engineering background from the navy and my CV is mainly all Diving as that's what I am.

However I can't hurt doing this course and fingers crossed something will pop up /-)

Petronas Medical and LPS Safety

Yeah as said the Petronas medical is pretty standard, I did mine in Johur last year and was in & out within 30mins.

The LPS is a full day course. When we did that in March it was taking around 3 days after to get clearance before you could enter the field.

Another requirement for Exxon is that you have done the TSBB (travel safely by boat course) some people get this as part of the survival course and others do not, they have to attend a half day course that actually just took 40 minutes!

Which field you heading out to? Tapis has big re-generation project going on at the moment expected to run through into next year, several vessels & barges are there with ROV & dive spreads.

I would suggest that any resettlement money would be better spent on gaining electrical/electronic or hydraulic qualifications.

Getting an insight or introduction to ROVs will do you no good if you are unable to maintain and repair them, which is what employers are looking for.

I have heard the argument about how Divers can get into ROVs "because they know about working in the water" but in reality ROV personnel are taken on to maintain and repair the equipment - this is the number one priority. All operational stuff with ROVs is learnt AFTER you get the job.

Tax in South Africa

Well, I know for a fact that my company has us all under PAYE tax scheme and if you are out of the country for more than half a year and with a 60 day continuous stint , then you do not pay tax. In South Africa. To the best of my knowledge, I heard about this changing but nothing has been implemented or decided yet.

Wow LMAC , the experience you have sounds fantastic, but it is also about the hours, and the trainee pilot positions are jammed pack full by so many people that have way less experience than you. Keep remembering though, once you are in you can only keep on going, the ladder is quite high.

Is that the way they speak in Norfolk?

Stephen Fry (and Lostboy) claim to be from there and yet I can understand everything the former says or writes!!!

Good writing skills are an important part of CV / report writing and one hopes that you can master these before approaching my spread.

Good luck anyhow, they need plenty of people at this time of the year in Northern Europe.

You are right there, but I have heard a few interesting angles on how to get around the 60 day rule. I also hear that the Nam or Botswana route is becoming an issue should Jan Tax investigate as they see it as a non paid holiday and not as part of the 60 day s at work ..... any thoughts?

Regarding MTCS their course is less criteria as they you don't do much flying time in comparison to other schools but its based more around the technical side.

It really isn't a very technical course either. It is a basic introduction to the industry. Very basic.
I was a service leaver so had the course paid for by the MOD. I would definitely not use my own money or recommend anyone to use their own money for this course. Personally, I still want to be a ROV PT but I have now got a job offshore as a mech tech. I am hoping to gain some offshore experience for a while and then look around for ROV work later. Unless of course I enjoy this job then I may just stick it out.
Whatever you decide to do-Good Luck
