Poor Agency Rates! (Name & Shame Section!)

the average markup for an agency is 20% but sometimes they get a more and some operators are also trying the squeaze too ,,

Most agencies are now becoming very annoying and service levels and competence of agents is patchy .....Too many trainee agents and they are also pushing the bottom line with one eye on profits and the other on their liabilities , overdrafts and will they get paid in 90 days .

Ok I have no idea were this agency gets these silly rates from , First of all the agency is Larson Group .

There requirements are in Brazil . First of all getting visa for down there is very hard .

Work class ROV experience (Fugro/Oceaneering/DOF Subsea/Subsea 7)
• Upwards of 1000 hours flying
• Good English
• Day rate for Senior Pilot Technician - £450/day
• Pipeline Installation or construction experience NOT Drill Support.

I think his going to have a very hard time plus Larson is a UK based agency does this mean bye bye to 40% of your day rate .

Just when you thought you had all certs required they bring out one more .
I have not seen any prices for this course but if the dead line is in September 2014 it does not give you much time as I have seen no warning of this new requirement until now .

I am all for safety but why don't they just add this course onto your next HUET & EBS , Mind you the same could be said for MIST plus it would seem that more and more clients require Rov personnel to have a HV cert.

I think we all know the answer to the above " Money " Working offshore now is more like flying on a budget airlines with so many extras .

All,

CSL are required to make you aware of the above training. This affects all personnel who travel to / from their offshore worksite by helicopter. Can you please contact your training provider and make arrangements to attend this training. Further info on the course is detailed below, with a link to the OPITO website included. The deadline for completion of this training is 1st September 2014. After this date, personnel who arrive at heliports and have not been trained, will be bumped.

The aims and objectives of the training are to ensure that the delegate gains the required knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of a Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) and appropriate practical emergency response actions to take should the requirement for emergency deployment arise.

During the training programme, delegates will be required to demonstrate their skills and understanding of the following key areas.

To successfully complete this training delegates must able to explain:

- The fundamental differences between re-breather and compressed air systems (technology and use)
- The rationale and use of compressed air emergency breathing systems in helicopter emergency situations
- The hazards associated with compressed air emergency breathing systems

To successfully complete this training delegates must able to demonstrate:

- A pre-flight inspection of the life jacket and CA-EBS
- Donning the life jacket with CA-EBS correctly, including ‘buddy check’
- An emergency deployment of the CA-EBS in a dry environment

This programme has been developed to address initial equipment introduction training requirements only and is designed to be delivered in a ‘dry’ training environment. This training programme will be valid from 23 June 2014 until further notice.

Target audience:

The Target group is personnel that are issued with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) whilst travelling to work by helicopter and may be required to use a CA-EBS in the event of an emergency.

Delegate pre-requisites:

Delegates must possess a valid BOSIET / FOET certificate including a valid HUET certificate prior to attending the OPITO Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Initial Deployment Training programme.

Training duration:

The optimum ‘contact time’ for the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Initial Deployment Training is 1.5 hours and can be carried out at an OPITO approved training provider.

Validity:

No expiry

Thanks Ray yes it would seem that the gear we were trained on 4 years ago is being replace by this new kit . Like it says " The current LAP / Air pocket doesn’t meet the standards "

So the course is 90 mins in the dry so no need to jump in the pool , I will see if I can book this the same time as my HUET as that's due soon nothing on price yet .

Ok Ray I contacted Petans and these are the prices they gave me :-

Courses will commence at 0700, 1000, 1230 and 1430 Monday-Friday. (£50 per delegate) also 1800 Monday-Thursday (£65 per delegate) Saturday as Monday-Friday (not 1800 session) (£75 per delegate).
NB Owing to the short course duration no lateness leeway at all will be given, nor any refund for no shows for whatever reason. However it will be possible to substitute personnel right up to the start.

So any thing from £50 - £ 75 GBP

I see no reason not to name and shame those agencies trying to offer totally unreasonable rates. Yes! there will be some flak no doubt, but if a company is named and true/offerred rate quoted then I see no issue with it.

As mentioned earlier, Company names and details yes, no naming of individual persons and all will be OK.

A new thread has been started for this very purpose as it will have little impact tacked onto this topic.

Only issue I had with these was a few years back - I discovered that they only deal with UK tax not Norwegian. However, this may have changed in recent years. Never had any problems with them for UK tax returns.

IV offshore play the same game. I worked on a job in Vletnam as a Supervisor for one agency and and my nightshift Supervisor was out for $300 less working for IV offshore. Agencies take more and mugs go out for less, this game is no fun anymore. Too many greedy agents and too many hungry techs.

Good question - where does the difference between agency charge out minus their commission and contractor day rate actually go? Maybe back into the business? Bonus pot? Monthly top up to the agency staff's basic wage? Lack of response from any agency speaks volumes. They are quick to advertise jobs though eh!

I heard of two guys, same position, same job but different agencies one on £100/d less than the other (Atlas)! Bearing in mind both agencies have taken their commission, probably a little extra as per above paragraph but here we see the lower paying agency skimming even more from their loyal worker!

The other agency joke is travel rates! How many try this on?! Strange how they tell you it is client policy but when you turn down the job you get offered full rate door to door!

Trust no one. Sad sign of the times.

Stay safe

Sorry James but if he contacts ISS in Singapore direct they will hire him Direct there is no reason to go via the UK office and the pay is USD .
Its best he speaks with the Singapore office and confirms all the job details before he accepts the work like most of us do .

This project is ongoing and has been for some months there main requirement is HV cert and a Petronas Medical .

Pay last time I spoke with Singapore was $900 however many of the agency's have the rate at $700 .

So Northseahero should contact direct the Singapore office and not the Aberdeen office .

Worked for Saipem and DO (Noway) in last year via agency. Agency mentioned travel rates, I declined job. Agency came back with full rate.

I queried travel rates with senior Saipem staff onboard and was told Saipem pay agencies full rate and what the agencies do is up to them.

At the end of the day when you step out of your home, your life is no longer yours as you are on company business. For this reason alone I never accept travel rates.

Like your day rate, it is up to the individual as to what they accept. Sadly, like low rates, someone will always take travel rates too. As long as this happens then agencies and some companies will always exploit the worker.
