All-Sea China

Seen this with both Egyptian and Chinese companies. The Egyptian company restriction didn't apply to contractors just local staff guys. The Chinese company stipulated a max age after two elderly contractors refused/ couldn't climb on a plough.

I too have worked for COOEC and a number of other companies. To be honest, there appears to be a minority of older guys who like to stand around talking shite, smoking and doing little else leaving all the work including flying to others. Usually contractors with no idea who shouldn't even be offshore.

I sympathise with companies who get guys like this from agencies, they expect experience, knowledge, ability and get none. This isn't good for the like of COOEC who have many Chinese trainees who want to learn from contractors.

Usually, if you have a good reputation, you shouldn't have problems working with companies even if you are older than their stipulated age group. If All Sea stop all contractors over 45 they would have no one left.

Stay safe

Another spin on this is that All Sea like to keep good guys but older experienced guys are usually in such high demand they never commit to one client.

Also, older experienced guys are wise on rates and command good remuneration but All Sea aren't the best payers. Perhaps they find <45's more accepting of <$900/d

Be interesting to hear from companies with restrictions as to their reasoning.

Not sure were the guy is from but if he contacts Singapore and asks them I am sure they will tell him But if he goes via ISS in Aberdeen for sure they will tax him .

The main thing is that the guys can work direct and not via a agency , But the problem with this job is you need to have a HV cert and a Petronas Medical .

You seen the price of a 2 day HV course over £600 pounds I hate to think of all these extra certs that we need to have now days any way getting off Topic.

Cheers

Raptor

Maybe we should start up a new Topic on whats certs you need to work offshore .

Deeptech Pay?

Worked for Deeptech a few times. Rates depend on what they bid for a job and vary quite a bit. Tell them what you want, they ether pay or offer less, it's your call as to what you accept.

Had a few late payments from them but they do pay so no worries there.

They pay door to door.

I would go direct in light of how agencies are ripping contractors off but gain it is your call.

Which project are you looking at and what position?

Poor Agency Rates! (Name & Shame Section!)

Why be discreet about rates? As Subhuman already mentioned, rates and agencies are the top two topics of conversation amongst contractors offshore.

Never heard of anyone being run off a job for discussing rates, there must be more to that story.

I worked for Tyco a few years back, rates were all over the place. It was a case of what you negotiated. Guys talk and moaned which created a headache for the agency involved. I was called at home and told not to discuss my rate. At the end of the day if you're not happy either renegotiate or move on.

Now days it is no good accepting a contract then finding out you've been duped when you get offshore. Decide what you want before you accept the contract. Understand that agencies will try and rip you off. They will succeed. Just that you won't know. At least if you are happy with your rate then it is bearable. If the agency won't meet your requirement then don't take the job although it is surprising, after refusing a job due to unacceptable rates, how many calls I get to say 'we managed to persuade the client to meet your request', gee, how nice but I see through the lie and read 'oh shit, we've been rumbled, we'd better hand over the full rate and not try to rip this guy off'.

Trust no one.

I am looking for a trainee position at the moment and have been looking through this site, I have to say there is a lot of good information on here.

Saves me having to ask the same old questions anyway! Smile

Eh? Posters statements are not all factually incorrect? I have worked for Deeptech through various agencies and direct, their rates were good and I never had travel rates.

However, as per my comment on another Deeptech thread, they have bid so low on recent projects that their rates have dropped dramatically. So, introduction of travel rates comes as no surprise.

I enjoyed working for them in the past so it disappoints me to turn down work with them. I hear they aren't very happy with a few recent agency guys but low rates repel experience and attract dross.

Hope things pick up for Deeptech and they can secure projects without having to bid ridiculously low for them.

Stay safe

And what do you think the NS PT1 rate is exactly then?

Most contracts in West Africa and any zones like that normally pay a premium for a number of reasons.

But you might as well go now before the Chinese change Africa.

UNIVERSITY GRADUATE ENGINEER LOOKING FOR A JOB

I got the degree from the UK and looking to get into a technical hands on trainee role, do you know anyone who would be worth trying for ROVs and subsea please?

Hi all.

Hi Mike

Sorry we seem to have left you out in the cold with your questions , Well first of all " Do Not Do a Rov Course " if you have the right back ground many of the Rov operators will hire you and put you through there own in-house training programs .So if you have experience in electronics or hydraulics you stand a good chance of getting in , But please note there are many thousands of other guys the same as you and a hand full of jobs , Plus if you do get in Rov personnel are paid very low money these days so you might be better at looking at some other job .

But should you want to follow the dream of Rov work as many do you have to do about 14 hours on the computer searching as no body is going to bang on your front door with job , Spend time looking at the archives on this site , ROV Rookie Corner , Thousands of people the same as you have ask the same thing " How Do I get a Trainee Rov Job " There is No Secret email address or phone number that I or any other member on this can give you .

In the end its down to You , For contact details you best go to IMCA web side and down load all there members , Then the rest is up to you .

Good Luck
