The policy from Deeptech has been in place for some time now. The post being made on the 8th July is in response and was clarified by Subserv Pro directly with Deeptech. This was following suggestions that we may not be operating the policy correctly.

Sonsub have a travel policy and I would advise that individuals seek clarification as to how this will be imposed prior to accepting a contract. However, I do not feel comfortable making any further comment on other clients policies in open forum without seeking prior approval from them.

We only ever work with our clients policies and never, ever withhold monies outside these policies as this would be in breach of contract.

I would be happy to discuss this any any other matters directly to further clarify our position if that would help in any way. My contact number is 0044 1295 225000.

Hey raptor, already ahead of you on most of those, I have got quite a list of places that I am contacting, cold calling and dumping CVs on, Got a good background already, oil and gas, hydraulics, electrics mechanics etc, only weak area is electronics but working o that.

I agree about not doing a course myself, I did go for a day at Fort William to see what the industry was like first hand and to actually have a little fly fr a Seaeye I believe it was. Little wee thing anyway.

As with most things in oil and gas you either have to know someone or just get lucky.

Cheers

Over the years the Day rate has fallen between staff and Agency guys. There was a time when Agency earned more as we were the last out and first in over the working season. We have to pay for are survival, medicals [ some of them] and what ever new certs that come up in the regions we work in. We have no pension plans or medical benefits or in some cases holiday pay.
Now it seems to be the norm to work for less or on par with the staff!
I enjoy taking time off when I want it but I might have to give that up now. Need to renew my survival cert. Crying or Very sad

Hi,
I came into the game late on in life, I did have a lot of relevant experience. I didn't take the advice on here, I did go to Fort William for 3 weeks and within 6 weeks of finishing the course I had 6 job offers. I'm now approaching 2 years, I have over 700 hours logged and have reached senior tech level.

If I had my time over again I would do the same. My view is that if there are. 2 identical candidates for a position but one of them had done a course, which would you choose?

It's a large amount of cash and you may be lucky enough to get a position without a course, depends just how lucky you feel.

I'm offshore at the moment and 4 out of the 6 crew have all done the Fort William course.

I don't understand what you are on about? The PTs could be on £700 and £800 and subject to Norwegian tax or £300 and £400 and not subject to tax. There is still a difference of £100 between two different agencies.

What is acceptable is up to the individual. If you think £440 is a good PT rate that's up to you. If you are happy to work alongside a colleague who is being paid more than you for doing the same work then fine.

We clearly operate in different client circles as £440 is very low to me. With people accepting such low rates agencies and companies will be reluctant to give improved rates out keeping rates suppressed.

Also, I am not prepared to work alongside someone who is being paid more for the same job. Thankfully this has never happened but I have witnessed this situation many times and it causes a lot of discontent.

Its a very good story interstate but like I have said to you many times in the past I have not seen any proof that doing a Rov course will get you a Rov job.

You are one of the lucky ones like winner the lottery many play the game and there are a few winners .Playing the lottery its only a few pounds these Rov courses are any thing from £2500 - over £12500 .

Times are hard and every body is after your hard earned cash they take your money then run .I wonder how many guys reading this did a course then asked the school for help in finding employment ?

If you have the right back ground in electronics or hydraulics any main line rov operator will hire you and put you through one of there own in house training programs .

This debate has been going on for years , For guys that did a course and found a job that's good ! I am very happy for you but there are thousands out who did a course and there still looking .

You could use para lock for your potting compound on the strength member, it will soak into your dacron, I have done this with kevlar before. You will need to splay out your dacron to the shape of the cone in your housing, taking it the full length of the cone if required and pot it, you could also put small protection sleeve over your coax and power cores as they pass through the potting, this would help protect them from crushing if a substantial load tension was applied.

While potting this keep your housing vertical and your cable coming straight out the bottom avoiding any bending.

Hopefully a link has appeared below, this will take you a supplier or the manufacturer of paralock. You may even get it from RS!

Hopefully this will help you a bit.

I would echo the idea of using a kellums grip/chinese finger on the cable to take the strain rather than relying on the kevlar. Similar to Image

Also, you do not want to pot the kevlar, any nicks in the cable and water wicks along the kevlar which would take it into the potting and possibly into your housing.

Generally on ROVs the Kevlar is braided/pleated and tied to the rov frame as a last "oh shit" failure of the kellums grip.
