Lets be clear about this. An agency can only be unscrupulous if a freelance person allows them to be, by taking a job with them under unconfirmed terms and conditions.

Over the years I have only ever worked for agencies that have been around for a while and have a known track record. Go with a new kid on the block and you are wide open to unknowns, non payment for example.

There is not one time that I haven't been paid my day rate nor had my expenses covered. Once or twice pay has been a bit late and some expenses queried, but in general nothing more than that.

Fair play to you. Each to their own.

150 days at £540 = £81000 minus tax and NI gives a take home of £54000.

Guess this is fine if you have no mortgage, young family, a good level of investments and are approaching retirement. Or have a wealthy wife or parents Laughing

Those of us with a few years left and mortgages will eventually end up in your situation although effectively throwing away £27k would not be an option to me, I would much prefer to work around Europe to avoid buying MPs new houses, giving money to benefit scroungers and the like Rolling Eyes

I work 185-200 days with average income of £115-120k tax free (offshore income). Like you, I am happy with my lot.

I know guys who work 320 days a year, greedy with huge consequences for their families. That is no life. As I say, each to their own but level headed guys draw the line somewhere which is why I have a set days target and mantra 'family & life before work'.

It's not a requirement of this thread that posters must name and shame, however, supplying information of somewhat dubious practices is still useful to others as it gives an idea of what to look out for.

That having been said, when you feel you have been royally screwed over naming the company that has erred in their ways might be a good pointer by way of who to avoid.

Please try to be factual though by posting information based on direct experience rather than here-say/third party knowledge.

Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Deployment (UK)

Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Initial Deployment training that has come into effect. This affects all personnel who travel to / from their offshore worksite by helicopter. Can you please contact your training provider and make arrangements to attend this training. Further info on the course is detailed below, with a link to the OPITO website included. The proposed deadline for completion of this training is 1st September 2014. After this date, personnel who arrive at heliports and have not been trained will not be allowed to board the helicopter.

The aims and objectives of the training are to ensure that the delegate gains the required knowledge and understanding of the particular hazards and properties of a Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) and appropriate practical emergency response actions to take should the requirement for emergency deployment arise.

During the training programme, delegates will be required to demonstrate their skills and understanding of the following key areas.

To successfully complete this training delegates must able to explain:

- The fundamental differences between re-breather and compressed air systems (technology and use)
- The rationale and use of compressed air emergency breathing systems in helicopter emergency situations
- The hazards associated with compressed air emergency breathing systems

To successfully complete this training delegates must able to demonstrate:

- A pre-flight inspection of the life jacket and CA-EBS
- Donning the life jacket with CA-EBS correctly, including ‘buddy check’
- An emergency deployment of the CA-EBS in a dry environment

This programme has been developed to address initial equipment introduction training requirements only and is designed to be delivered in a ‘dry’ training environment. This training programme will be valid from 23 June 2014 until further notice.

Target audience:

The Target group is personnel that are issued with Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) whilst travelling to work by helicopter and may be required to use a CA-EBS in the event of an emergency.

Delegate pre-requisites:

Delegates must possess a valid BOSIET / FOET certificate including a valid HUET certificate prior to attending the OPITO Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Initial Deployment Training programme.

Training duration:

The optimum ‘contact time’ for the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) Initial Deployment Training is 1.5 hours and can be carried out at an OPITO approved training provider.

Validity:

No expiry

Age Restrictions

Seeing more and more age restrictions in ROV these days. A few noted:

'Must be younger than 30' (staff position)
'Must not be over 45' (contractor positions)
'Must not be over 60' (contractor positions)

Curious I contacted the later two companies and queried this. The first one said they had older contractors who refused/could not climd around subsea equipment for maintenance or repairs as per their job description. The second one said 'all the senior ones ( contractors) turned out to be disasters to their vessels' Laughing

Thankfully I have a few years to go Smile

I predict that many of the smaller agencies that have popped up in the 'good times' era will befall the same fate.

All well and good but if you restrict yourself to UK companies you are exposing yourself to lower rates, taxes, NI and will be limiting yourself to a very small part of the ROV industry market. It is a big world out there with great opportunities. I would still go for any appealing job even if an age restriction is mentioned, reputation is a contractors trump card besides, don't ask don't get.

Whilst we welcome agencies posting job vacancies at ROVworld.com, we do expect posters to follow our guidelines.

In particular, for job vacancies, please read: http://www.rovworld.com/ftopict-2356.html

The best approach is to compile your vacancies into one post, not create multiple posts as you did. Multiple posting is also against forum guidelines, therefor your all but one of your posts have been deleted by an admin.

You are welcome to post your requirements once more, but I strongly suggest you combine your requirements into one post and add more contact information.

A prime example (as per forum guidelines) of compiling all vacancies into one email (not flooding the forum with multiple posts) and providing sufficient contact information!

Thanks!
