All that equipment represents many out of work people. Though they were competition, its still depressing watching that stuff get sold off. This is one industry (energy) where you either make the grade or you dont, and the penalty is swift.

ROV vs Hydro Surveying

The same theme rolls on and on....

You need to be a hands on tech type to be of any use on an ROV system.

You'll go through a lot of pain and money if you try to get into ROV without at least knowing the difference between a multimeter, a sky hook, and a ring spanner!

Do they call them ring 'wrenches' in North america? Wink

Hey Aquarat,

If your deafness is total then I dont think you would be able to pass the hearing test for the offshore medical. You need to be able to hear the alarms etc on board a ship/ rig etc. If there are lifts going on you need to hear the crane alarms as well as anyone shouting at you not to walk under the load.

If its just a partial deafness, then your medical would be down graded accordingly up to a point.

Your best bet is to ask a doctor who is qualified to give OGUK medicals as they will give you the best advice/info. A list can be found here:

http://www.oilandgasuk.co.uk/knowledgecentre/doctors.cfm

Best of luck mate!

Ivoffshore Recruitment's consultants get a good slagging of from the Diving side lots of comments regarding them on longstreath.com there.

I wonder why the Directors allow such a recruitment company to get a name like that so quickly it only takes 60 secs these days with using google and one finds out so much gossip why they employ these useless trainee recruitment consultants to take the company name backwards as they have no idea about agency recruitment.

I suspect FSSL has performed well overall as there has been mention in the press of Fugro increasing it's subsea IRM capability going forward. It's the other divisions that have been tanking from what I can gather.
