I did the 3 week course at the Underwater Centre last year and am currently available for work. Martime background as a Radio Officer and Electronics ETO in the 1990's / 2000's.

HND in Electronics and Communications Engineering.

FAA Commercial Airplane Pilot Certificate, Single/Multi Engine with Instrument Rating & 250 flight hours.

Lots of experience with electrical and electronic troubleshooting both at sea and ashore.

While at the Underwater Centre, I got the chance to put my marine electronics experience to use and got to the bottom of an ongoing problem they had been experiencing for some time with the Sonar system on one boat launched ROV. Problem was resolved and system up and running with no problems. I feel I do have the right kind of experience for this sort of career and am very eager to get started.

Hello everyone,

As I know the moderators do not want any mention of directors names posted to any thread regarding Energy subsea. So therefore I shall not...

I am seeking everyone's stories on their dealings with Energy Subsea as my aim is to build a website showcasing what they have done, and in order to not allow anyone else fall iinto the same trap as some of us on Here have...

Myself and at least 11 others are owed in excess of $140,000 for jobs we did in Bulgaria for south stream and in Venezuela for a job with petrol Saudi and PDVSA in May and June of 2014.

If you would like me to put your story on the website please send all your info to me at energysubsea.wontpay@gmail.com

Please be as informative as possible including the clients, date, work scope, what they owe you and of course we will not publish your own identy unless you specifically want us to....

I look forward to receiving your emails and naming and shaming them.

Regards...

Very Interesting, thanks for that JonoBiggs. Unfortunately I'm based in Ireland and don't have US living/working privileges. It may be something to look at elsewhere though I haven't flown in 5 years. Maybe some day EASA and the FAA will come to their senses and iron out their differences. I'm pretty much getting the picture that the ROV end of things is highly unlikely for the foreseeable future in any case. Thanks again Smile

Any Electrical Control Equipment zone rated used in ROV Subsea Operations which is certified is worked on by Qualified Electricians (Not Domestic Electricians).

So your Answer is a Domestic Qualified Electrician is of no use at all.

Can the Domestic Electrician progress yes to be Qualified Electrician yes they could increase there basic knowledge and certs and would it become use full yes.

Will your knowledge be use full as a Mech Tech in ROV regarding electrics possible but you wont be working for any competent operator on there certified electrical control gear.

And like I said Comp EX is not for domestic work you are supposed to be Qualified Electrician and with out those Qualifications you will not be able to sign of Comp EX work any way.

Saudi is fine from a security point of view.... Lots of BS by immigration (they make you wait alot before you get through), but at the end of the day you are only onshore for a small portion of your trip, ie, the travel offshore and the return transit.

All down to how much you need to work I guess... Smile

Cheers for the input Des.. I appreciate that... 😀👍

Just had a call from an Agency looking for an ROV Supervisor. The job description was pretty much run of the mill stuff so naturally interested I asked what the day-rate was. 300 GBP came the reply...!!! Now would this be an agency trying it on, or are guys actually working for this? I sincerely hope its the former as if people are working for these rates it'll ruin things for everyone.

Sadly Pete, people are desperate. I agree with you that it will destroy our credibility but so many people have forked out uneccesary money for unneeded courses. So here we are. Don't want to harp on about it but ROV guys not reachng agreement on some coordinated body when the opportunity arose have made their bed and are now laying on it, or rather in it. We are at the mercy of sharks and liars making big money. I bet the rates you are hired out at have not altered and when an Inexperienced, cheaper guy, is used in your place (after submitting your CV as a demonstration of the quality of their supervisors) do they drop their charges to reflect it - doubt it.

I think your all looking form the wrong angle " There is No Job "

Many of the clients I speak to they all tell me its dead , When up pops Ivoffshore telling me they have a job for that company when I know there is no job , This seems to happen about once a month .

All there doing is fishing for information " Send me your CV " , " What is the lowest rate your work for "

From looking at the Divers forums there doing the same thing there and like you there all saying the same thing regarding rates .

When they phone or email you next time accept there silly job but I think your find they will pull there " Get out of Jail Free Card "

Due to the fast-paced nature of the industry in which we work, we endeavor to provide our clients’ with the contractor they require in the shortest timeframe possible. We aim to keep our live jobs as up to date as possible however there may be occasions that the job you are viewing is no longer available. For a discussion about currently available roles, please contact us.

" Sorry the post has been filled "

All there doing is " increasing the size of their database " even if you request your cv to be removed .

Trust me if you saw a ad on this forum or on some other web site you would send off your Cv and certs , We all would even if the job was fake .

The problem is when Rov personnel requirements do arise you wont know if the ad is real or fake

If the projects they were offering were real , Then the rates are poor but that is only half the issue since there is no job so it does not matter if the rates are low or high .

What is the best way to cold call someone offer them work " Can you send me your up to date CV plus what is your bottom rate that your accept "

Just look back on the old emails or calls that you have received over the past few months and your see what I mean .

As far as rates go and getting all rov personnel to join some sort of union it will never happen due to the flood of trainees just look back at the archives on this site . Even if we were part of a union like the divers are with the RMT it does not guarantee you the agreed rates if you go to many of the divers forums your see what I mean . All company's are cutting costs in any way they can . But yes there is work out there if you dig around .

Hi Chewy why are you getting MTCS for your grading assessment when it can be done for free by a previous company that's a IMCA member .

Plus on there web site it clearly states " All Certificates of Competence issued by MTCS have a 3 year validity period, after which they must be renewed in order to ensure personnel are still competent in safety critical, operational and maintenance activities. " Now this is not industry mandatory standard its some thing that is just that is down to MTCS " .

You can down load : -
http://www.imca-int.com/%28F%28GGxvagn0LZv8Tb7R7iRCQ5Jn9Ap-35m9oN3aAG8nd5zVT-cVtpeU3sc1BnVQWHt1Q8lraYvOCjev7wfyv3wlrv32xtxmcKNnHiaG9QYQoWU6H6q99vLNmkMhWy9t8bnvsHTQybufJaiRng_dy4IvbJYf9ANeCRgHQWe-GShbZ9o1%29%29/media/70629/imcac005.pdf

Its in black + white or just drop IMCA a email and they will confirm .

Other wise every 3 years your be paying out for re-certification .

Just heard that Canyon ROV / Trenching are letting 69 of 98 offshore staff go. This is after a reduction in salary days from 150 to 120 a 5% cut in dayrate and loss of yearly bonus.
Thats a load of guys joining the already swelling ranks of contractors

Until the price of oil gets above $70 USD there will be little change on the work front .There is work out but you need to dig deep for it .

As for next year I did hope that it was going to be the same as the 1986 recession when 87 was a good year however from looking at the current price of oil I think you maybe right .

It maybe a bit better than this year when there is requirements for Rov personnel I think they will require work class personnel like UHD , SMD and Perry vehicles . As for inspection jobs I think most of the projects will be put back till a later date .

The other thing is every body to trying to cut cost by hiring more locals and smaller crews and lower rates .

ROV Competeance Scheme expiry periods

Some months ago we were having a debate on " ROV Competeance Scheme expiry periods "

So I thought you would like to see what MTCS states on there web site .
It would seem that if you were assessed by them you need to be re-assessed
every 3 years .

http://www.mtcs.info/competence/certificate-renewal/

If you need to be assessed go to your past or current employer who is a IMCA member and they will do it for free I have checked with other schools and IMCA you only need to be re-assessed if you want to change grade from a P/T to a Supervisor or Supervisor to Superintendent .

But it is just a one off however if MTCS had there way it would be mandatory Just think of the money it would bring in every 3 years at £300 a go !

Alright chap, with the current climate it's going to be hard work to find a job.. Perhaps when oil prices go up we'll all be back in work, but until then we're fucked...
