Industri Energi delivered a boycott notice to Technip Singapore over “social dumping”.

The trade union said it would boycott Technip from October 23 because the company has yet to issue a collective agreement around wages and working standards.

“Technip Singapore have people who work on multipurpose vessels on the Norwegian continental shelf that are not covered by a collective agreement. We cannot accept,” said Ommund Stokka, site manager at Industri Energi.

Stokka said the lack of collective agreement meant the oil workers were “outlaws on the Norwegian shelf”.

He said the teams were not covered by the Norway’s Working Environment Act when installing subsea equipment. The union, which is the fourth largest with 61,000 members, has issued a further political demand for workers to be covered by both the act and the Petroleum Safety Authority when carrying out work.

you nion leader Leif Sande added: “Industri Energi requires oil workers in underwater construction companies on the Norwegian shelf to have Norwegian wages and working conditions.”

Elsewhere in the UK, members of Unite you nion have been urged to vote in favour of strike action over a pay freeze.

There isn't one company that I know of that is looking to take on trainees at the moment, and I can't see that changing for the first half of next year. There have been a couple of companies looking to take on experienced guys (Snr Pilot and above) for short term contracts but that obviously wouldn't include you.

The grim fact for everyone here is that despite how comfortable a company looks at the minute there is ALWAYS a chance that it could go under, or companies they have contracts with go under. With that in mind I would do as said before. Get your HNC finished, continue with your job at the hospital and there is nothing wrong with you doing your offshore medical and survival.

Pumping your CV out to all the companies still going is something you could do anyway, without any outlay.

IMCA does not issue Certification or Accreditation however I contacted them regarding personnel grading and they confirmed that all Rov Personnel had to be re-assessed every 3 - 5 year , Please PM me and I will forward the email from them .

All this came about after I saw on MTCS web site " http://www.mtcs.info/competence/certificate-renewal/ "

IMCA has all ways said they do not not issue Certification or Accreditation for any ROV technician competence grade . So this is nothing new however it does not stop the schools from selling the idea to all the clients .

Just look back 10 years ago when someone at MTCS put in someone head about a HV cert at the time it was not a general requirement however these days it seems to be .

At the end of the day its all down to what the client will and wont accept but I would still like to know how can MTCS can carry out competence assessment on people they have never even seen before .
Please dont say Log books as most of the Superintendents and Supervisors out there will tell you it means very little , just put the person on the sticks for 10 minutes and your know if he has the experience .

Even in the paper work from IMCA it states competence assessments should be carried out by managers or supervisors in other words In House and not done by Schools or academy's.

I did check other schools and MTCS is the only one that's doing re-assessments . If your still not sure go to your current or previous employer who is a IMCA member and request a assessment .

When the rov work returns the last thing you want to be told is " Sorry your competence assessment is out of date "

Sorry Fiinnfler its clear that you do not understand .

Due to the current recession in the oil + gas industry there is very few requirements for Rov personnel .

So you could spend a full £20.000 GBP on doing a work class course at fort William but you still wont get a job . Even if you offered your services for free you still wont get a job ! Others have already tried .

First of all is the Rov course mandatory " NO its NOT " if you have Experience in electronics or hydraulics then should there be a requirement this will help you get a Trainee job most company's we put you through one of there own in house training programs .
However due to the current recession your not find any requirement as most company's are laying people off . So like the others have already told you " YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME "

There are many members of this forum who have over 15 years experience and they cannot find work so a trainee has no chance . But its your money if you want to spend a large amount of money on a worthless cert then go ahead we did warn you .

Certs that are mandatory are your OGUK Medical and your FOET / HUET & EBS , CA-EBS and MIST its all down to what the end client requires .

Forget Rov work until the price of Oil goes back up again and like deepseacon suggest do some other City & Guilds course on electronics or hydraulics .

And the law of supply and demand tells us we are going to have to get much more acquainted with the arts of backstabbery, reduced day rate and giving the crewing cretins a good old tongue bath if we want to stay in work.

Personnally if I was you I would stick to the bridge or get out of offshore completely as a way to make a decent living and do something else. Theres a 3 year shake out of the industry to come and unless Vlad Putin decideds to bomb the oil fields of S Arabia in the next few weeks, the offshore career is not going to be stable, lucrative or pleasant in the immediate future, except for a few lucky and/or connected individuals.

I have just come of a good 6 week job on a decent rate 3rd job this year , and im on a rotation till june 2016 now which is a relief as this year started very thin ,,, ,

just got home and 2 agents called me about a job supervising a cougar in the baltic next month but the rate for supervisor is £300 and its not IV offshore ,,, thats a joke rate but its a real job ,,some desperate guy will do it I guess .
