Oceaneering problems

I am in the same situation.

Since May 1st I have completed 14 whole days offshore!

I have simulator flying time only and despite having a strong technical background, completing the TUC course (I know, I know) and then going on to score very well on my new hire course in Batam I find myself sitting at home.

I regularly contact resources and get told to be patient!!!

Some of my classmates from TUC now have over 200 hours on a variety of different equipment, started through agencies and then got offered employed work after proving themselves in the workplace.

ROV Pilot Techs - Saab Seaeye Experience necessary

tooling tech training

Guys,
Made a rod for my own back last trip.
Had a trainee, decent guy, keen as mustard!, and I suggested that with his trade background, he should look at tooling as a way forward as he was struggling to get days offshore.
Thought the easiest thing in the world would be for him to get a start onshore working up gear, but he has been twice asked "what training courses he has completed?".
Apart from Subnet I cant find any tooling "courses", anybody got any pointers?.

Maybe someday Ill learn to "keep my trap shut"!!!!!

In hindsight, maybe it would have been prudent to make the small boat fast on the tanker if possible?
Still, it's only a VR, easy peasy to reterm and get back in the water...

ROV Pilot Technician Trainee - Seeking Experience

I have recently discharged from the Royal Australian Navy where I was an Electronic Technician Submariner and now I'm looking at entering the ROV industry.

I served for 10 years in the Navy as an Electronic Technician, and as part of my job I have conducted pre and post starts on Sonar, Communications systems, Networks, Navigational Aids, as well as fault finding and repairs, I’ve removed and installed a wide range of high end electronic systems both on Submarines and Surface ships. Throughout my Naval Career I maintained a very high work ethic and was reported highly on from my supervisors.

I have just recently completed my ROV04 Commercial Oilfield ROV Pilot course from Subnet Services Ltd in the Philippines, in which I finished with a final exam result of 96% as well as finishing on top of the class during our flying training on both the Sea-Botix and the Navajo ROVs. My course included Electronics , Fibre Optics (under FOA guidelines), High Power and Hydraulics. This was conducted in Manila under the watchful eyes of instructors from MFI Foundation Inc.

My training then continued in Subic Bay at IDESS Maritime Centre, where under the guide of Subnets Instructors we were trained up the health and safety requirements of living and working offshore as well at safety within the ROV work environment. We conducted both night time and day time flying using the Sea-Botix LBV150-4 and Sub-Atlantic Navajo. During this time we in counted a few faults on both ROVs including simple thrust faults to telemetry faults which where all fixed in a timely manner. I have completed my offshore UKOOA Medical (American Outpatients Clinic) and my OPITO BOSIET (IDESS Maritime Centre Inc.)

I am extremely excited about starting this new career, and I’m available immediately for any possible work (short term or long term work), and I'm willing to travel anywhere where I can gain the experience I need.

If you feel that perhaps my training and experience in the Navy would show me as a good fit for one the positions in which you are currently hiring or for any position that may come up in the future, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Fugro ROV trainee

What are they like to work for - you work, they pay you money, its a rather vague question to ask! They are somewhere in-between daily beatings and peeling grapes and feeding you using naked angels.

In reality, you get a job with anyone who will give you one as a Trainee, once you are in the door, its much easier to get work elsewhere.

Just remember, these companies are taking people on to operate and maintain their equipment, they know you cannot learn to become an ROV pilot until you get a job as an ROV pilot, hence why the concentrate on the technical ability of new starts. Suggest you have a read through the internet on what work Fugro do offshore etc. try and find out a bit about the company. Expect to have to demonstrate (by questioning) whatever you have put on your CV to ensure you're not bullshitting. You MAY get shown a hydraulic or electrical diagram and asked questions about it (depending on your background).

Write down your questions to remind you what it is you want to ask them.

Trainee I think is round about £20k a year and £90 a day offshore, £70 if you work in base.
