Low rates of recent jobs advertised

The oil price drops so they want to decrease the price. Lets look at the oil companies.

If they think the price is too high, buy their own ROVs. Too much overhead.

Companies that are dropping their bid are dills. If only two companies do it then they have to provide for the whole market. They also like to think the more office employees they have the more important they are. To maintain the office employees they have to trim elsewhere to make the saving. So lets trim off the only other dills who will take it.

The agencies. Once upon a time they worked for us. with the influx of the professionally trained IMCA pilot tech, we have successfully decreased our wages. the last 10 years have been the most difficult for a pay increase. Gone are the days of a 20 to 50 dollar increase every job. The new agencies have nothing to offer you at all. Try a job with an agency at USD 1k / day... mission impossible. I know previously the agency paid the rate offered by the company and added the insurance and their markup. Now the agency cuts into the Tech/supervisor. The only way for the agency to stay afloat is to offer cheaper rates to the company and drop your rate to maintain their income.

AND this is why almost all the old agencies went out of business, because the only thing the newbies have to offer is PRICE and that price is dependent on YOU.

What path should I follow?

Hi Antonioc,

If I was you I would go for the Sonardyne opportunity. It may be a very, very long time before the industry recovers and there are alot of guys all going for the same rov jobs.

And before anyone says it Im not after his job by getting him to leave, I still have one... Smile

Im looking to leave the ROV industry after being in it for only 8 yrs and working onshore in an electrical capacity. There are alot of other jobs out there not ROV related that are fantastic opportunities (offshore as well as onshore). As long as you have the qualifications of course! Wink

If and when the industry picks up again you could always choose to get back into it but the companies are just as quick to drop all of us, as has happened to many this year.

Either way, its your decision and good luck in making your choice!!!

Cheers

Best Wishes former UKPS employees, they gave me my start.

When it came time to negotiate my day rate:
UKPS- "how much?"
I replied- "xxx.00"
UKPS- "US dollars?"
I replied- "no, GBP."
UKPS-silence for 05 seconds then "but you're not British."
Me- "so what? I am doing the job same as them I will be paid the same"
UKPS 02.5 seconds later "ok".

Lesson Learned.

Update Posted from a Director off IV Global IV Offshore

This was posted on longstreath.com

Hello all, this is -------, Director of IV Global.

I understand I am opening myself up here but I would like to explain IV Global's position in this scenario. The last thing we want to do is drive down the rates paid to you guys. What we have done is spoken to the guys that have worked for us in the past who are currently sitting at home wanting work. We asked them the rate that they would accept in order to get offshore again and are then relaying it to our clients to try and get work for the guys. We are not talking guys into rates they shouldn't be accepting, we are asking what they will accept and working with that figure.

I am fully aware of the reputation that IV Offshore has had in the past, everyone here is doing their utmost to rectify this. I will defend ---------- to the hilt as he is a good guy who, as I am sure many ROV guys will testify, has offered a great service to many over the years. All we are trying to achieve is getting guys out to work. This may be at lower rates than we are all used to (our 'cut' is now minuscule) however there are many that would rather have work at lower rates than no work at all.

I am more than happy to have a phone conversation with anyone who would like to discuss further and I would welcome the chance to explain that we are not here to rip off anyone, far from it. If anyone wishes to reach me my number is +44 (0)7943 393569

Regards
--------

if you are still a company employee its been near to normal except for all thr people laid off so those still on the books are taking up the slack ,,

but most free lancers seem to be short of work , and the agencies are suffering too some have laid off staff , I reckon i will do 50% less work this year ,,, and rates on offer are lower too...

Hi Des_b, thanks for your reply and attention, for the present time I'll have to wait for this downturn moment to pass, not only for the world petroleum industry udownturn but also the actual internal corruption petrobras is struggling within, with affects significantly the whole Brazilian economic (wasn't very good already) situation, especially on the energy field. Looks like everything is happening at the same time. So, I'll have to wait on where I am.

Greetings
