I thought the course was a joke although not a very funny one, I'm glad I wasn't using my own money.
An instructor who had no experience and didn't have any background knowledge. I am now as qualified as he was.
I'm now working offshore but not in the ROV industry. Talking to the ROV guys - they say that wages aren't as good as other offshore work.
It was a nice sunny two weeks in the Lake District though.

Seahorse should know better than to ask for some thing like this as a Supervisors cert does not exist .

If it makes you feel any better you can go to your current company and they can issue you with a letter on there letter headed paper and stamped with there IMCA stamp and stating .

As IMCA member we commit ourselves to the IMCA Competence Assurance & Assessment Scheme and herewith certify Mr ********. ********** the Following grade .

SUPERVISOR

I have worked for Seahorse many times and I have never had to show it however at the end of the day its all down to what the client will accept and wont accept , Some now days require a HV cert some require you to keep a log book , However its not a mandatory requirement and that I might add comes straight from IMCA .

Well I hope this answers your question .

Cheers

I concur with Rays Board , Spend the money on getting electrically qualified. You are doing yourself no favours just doing the course without any knowlegeble background.
The fact that you were or am a Part 1 diver would mean you had at least the basics in Offshore work ethics.
An ROV Company will look at the CofV's and would most likely take on the one with the most Electrical experience whether you have done a "ROV Course" or not Confused
Good luck on your job hunting Very Happy

I think the biggest issue here is the ROV industry isn't regulated.

If it were, along the lines of diving with various regulated grades, then there would be no doubt as to what is required. Right now, there is no agreed standard other than 'guidelines' pushed out by a trade body. Those guidelines can be adhered to or not, and hold no precedence in law.

Hence threads like this debating whether a supervisors tickets exists or not.

Actually the ROV industry is in a bit of state as far as regulation is concerned. It was something we recognised here years ago at ROVworld but when we tried to sort it out, few wanted to do anything about it by way of self regulation, so it's been left to the IMCA (by default) to gain an even greater hold over how the subsea industry is run and guide the offshore ROV industry the way they see fit. Whether that will serve the best interests of ROV personal will matter not a jot to the IMCA.

I have no sympathy for those that are now having to deal with the uncertainty of the way things are moving in this industry.

As your a Joiner / Chippy why not speak with some Sparkies or Buliders who employ both do some Chippy work and Some Electrical Labouring ie Electricians mate.

If you get you CSCS card for electrical labourer then can work in than route gaining experence while studying and also could study to be a sparkie at the same time gaining also valueable experence.

Domestic work possible be eastest way first. geting your part P and other certs.

Get some hands on Sparkie work experence do your Electricians course's at the same time.

All this work and study could be taken as you required not affecting your normal study due to the level of studies just needs a small amount of funds.
.
This would be a very good step in the right direction for an ROV career in a few years with the right background all ready prepared for when you have a piece of paper which says HNC you would have Electrical hands on experence it would also maybe help in your studies as cross information.

CSS vs Nautech Judgement

Hello all,

It has come to our attention that many clients and contractors have been contacted regarding issues with Ryan Dunning, Stephen Coleman and Chris Inns' former employers.

If you have received such you have unfortunately been misinformed. The Royal Court of Jersey has affirmed that CSS is fully entitled to compete with Nautech. Nautech has repeatedly failed in its attempts to use Court orders to stop CSS from trading. The most recent reasoned judgment is awaited, but the Court has already made clear its decision. We can provide a copy of the latest judgment when it is available. An earlier judgment is available at http://www.jerseylaw.je/Judgments/UnreportedJudgments/Documents/Display.aspx?url=2013%2F13-05-15_Nautech_Services_Ltd-v-CSS_Ltd_and_Others_089.htm.

We would draw your attention to the summary at paragraphs 92 to 96.

It is simply not true that CSS has admitted to unlawfully taking "the Nautech Database", nor that such a thing exists. There is no Court order prohibiting CSS from using such a thing. There is an injunction preventing CSS and others from infringing copyright in any information confidential to Nautech. CSS is abiding by this injunction and is trading freely, as the Court has said it must be allowed to do.

The litigation in Jersey therefore provides absolutely no reason for any person to decline to do business with CSS.
